Holy Scripture affirms that man and woman were created for one another:
“It is not good that the man should be alone." – Genesis 2:18
“Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they
become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24
The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate
communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the
Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation
and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of
a sacrament . – Catechism of the Catholic Church 1660
Weddings at St.John the Baptist
Please meet with Fr. Powers at least six months before desired wedding
date.
St. John the Baptist marriage preparation includes the following:
● Meetings with a priest/deacon
● Taking the Prepare inventory and meeting with a mentor couple
● Attending the Archdiocesan engaged couple retreat
Because the Church is concerned that each couple has a lasting and happy marriage, a
wedding date can be set only after the required preparation process is underway.
Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible after their engagement is
announced. The preferred preparation period is 12 months. You must be a registered
parishioner before setting a wedding date.To reserve a wedding date a couple must first
