Total Lifelong Catechesis (TLC) is a whole new way of understanding what our role and mission is as disciples of Jesus Christ!

We should be spending our entire lives growing in an intimate relationship with God. The reality of Christian growth is that children learn and live what they experience at home. If Jesus is not visibly present at home and in their parents, they may not/cannot learn from Catholic Schools or Parish Religious Education programs what they need to experience the life of God.

TLC Mass - One Sunday a month is designated as our TLC Mass, a special opportunity for our youth to be involved in our Sunday liturgy.  Students will be given opportunities to serve in liturgical roles usually reserved for our adult parishioners, such as being an usher or a reader at Mass.

TLC Meal & Message - One Wednesday a month we gather at 6:00 p.m. for a meal as a parish family.  There is a craft or family project and then at 6:30 p.m. we break into learning groups. Children and teens learn in a traditional classroom setting while their parents and other adult parishioners hear a talk and have opportunities for small group discussion. As lifelong learners we hope that they, too, may continue to learn and grow in their faith.

What about the Sacraments?

Most children receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in second grade.  First Reconciliation normally takes place in the latter part of November and First Communion in April.

Confirmation at St. John the Baptist is a two-year program, usually starting in eighth grade with teens being Confirmed in their second year.
